The program brings together scholarships offered by the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAT), the Department of Education and the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR). Destination Australia- The Destination Australia Program (DAP) is the Australian Government’s new mobility program for domestic and international students to study in regional Australia. Over 1000 scholarships will be available each year to support both domestic and international students studying at regional campus locations in qualifications from a Certification IV level and above. Australian tertiary institutions will be able to apply for scholarships of up to $15,000 per student, per year.

Australian Government Research Training Program (RTP)- From 1 January 2017 the Research Training Program (RTP) replaced the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) program. Education and Living costs in Australia

Living Costs- As of October 2019 the 12-month living costs are;

  • For students or guardians – AUD$21,041
  • For partners coming with you – AUD$7,362
  • For a child coming with you – AUD$3,152

Education costs- The list below gives you a broad indication of the range of course costs (yearly) for different types of qualifications. 

  • School – $7,800 to $30,000
  • English language studies – Around $300 per week depending on course length
  • Vocational Education and Training (Certificates I to IV, Diploma and Advanced Diploma) – $4,000 to $22,000
  • Undergraduate Bachelor Degree – $20,000 to $45,000*
  • Postgraduate Masters Degree – $22,000 to $50,000*
  • Doctoral Degree – $18,000 to $42,000*

Admission process

Admission requirements vary between study programs and levels. For each course, Indian students will need to meet a minimum English language requirement. Along with that, a minimum academic record of 65% and above in class XII will be required. Pathways,Foundations and Diploma programs are available for students who have secured below 60%. The student should have completed 18 years of age before joining a degree program.

Apply for Student Visa

Students looking to pursue higher education in Australia, are required to apply to the recently introduced Simplified Student Visa Framework (SSVF) that has been initiated from July 1, 2016. As per the recently introduced visa guidelines implemented by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, Government of Australia, all students planning to study in Australia need to apply for Visa under Subclass 500 which has been newly introduced. Earlier, applications were accepted under different subclasses. Recent changes have combined the erstwhile subclasses 571 – 576 under one subclass i.e. Subclass 500.

One can apply for an Australian Student Visa maximum of 124 days prior to the commencement of your course. Also, you can travel to Australia a maximum of 90 days prior to the start of your course. Under the new SSVF Guidelines. the Australian Student Visa process is completely online. Here are the steps you need to follow.

  1. To start an online application, you will need to create and log into your Immi Account.
  2. Applicants should fill the visa application form corresponding to the visa subclass under which they are eligible to apply for. (Education agents can lodge student eVisa applications on the behalf of the student.)
  3. To track your application, you will again need to login to your Immi Account.  You can use your account to attach documents, update passport details, change email, and address details, and check the progress of your application.
  4. A Transaction Reference Number (TRN) is a unique number assigned to each online application. You will need this to track and manage your application, identify when you need to communicate with the visa center, and check your visa entitlements.

Documents Required for Student Visa for Australia

As per the tool available on DIBP’s website, students can ascertain the documents which would be required. We are providing you with all the possible documents which might be required under Streamlines and Regular Evidentiary documents. Remember, since the application is only online, students must ensure that they have scanned copies of all the documents listed ready before they start their online application. Also, please remember that the list of Regular Evidentiary Documents is in addition to the documents required for the SSVF processing.

  • Valid Passport – Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your period of stay in Australia.
  • Non-immigrant Visa Application
  • Application fee payment receipt
  • Confirmation of Enrolment Form (COE) – To obtain a visa to study in Australia you must be fully enrolled in an Australian institution and receive a “Confirmation of Enrolment (COE)”. These forms are issued by the Australian institution you will be attending. The forms are usually issued after the tuition fees have been received.
  • Acceptance letter from your host university, this will include the proposed study plan
  • Overseas health insurance receipt (OSHC)
  • Recent Digital photographs
  • Transcripts, diplomas, degrees, or certificates from schools you attended
  • English Language Test Scores
  • Statement of Purpose (SOP)
  • Evidence of Financial Capacity

Visa Requirements
